French Caribbean Island life
Ah, the Island Life.. A part of me has always wanted to live on soft sand beaches and grow old with the sound of the ocean, so I try to spend as much time as I can living that dream.
Private Beach at my hotel , La Creole Beach hotel and Spa
Recently, one of my friends, he invited me to his hometown, Pointe-à-Pitre, which is one of the French islands in the Caribbean. He’s lived there for years.. So lucky! His cousins , his cousin’s gf and younger brother, were flying in from London and Paris to spend a week on the island and I’ve never been to to that part of the world, so it seemed like a good chance to catch up with friends and explore a new place.
It's really hot so I wearing white bikini (top : Fae swim , bottom : Naked wardrobe) with handmade shell Charms Anklet from local artist.
The flight was really long, but I was so excited for the warm beaches and amazing food, it basically flew by! When the plane landed, I was so upset to find it was raining.. I was seriously expecting it to be super hot. Turns out, it rains in short bursts all the time here. The concierge at the hotel called it a Tropical Climate. Just like those Caribbean rhythms, the weather changes all the time lol.
I spent a few hours with my afternoon latte at the hotel, La Creole Beach Hotel and Spa. What a beautiful place.. my friend knows me so well, he knew I would love this place! The spa here is amazeballs!! They have a bunch of cute gazebos on the beach for messages and facials, also indoor spa is fabulous. It was hard to go back to normal life after hanging around this spa.
I couldn’t be happier on this island. I found this amazing restaurant on the water and ended up going there three times. The restaurant is called Le Zawag. The service was great, they have an amazing selection of local rum, and also some of the freshest seafood I’ve ever had. It was five minutes away from my hotel room, which could not have been a better coincidence.
My friend and his gang planned out our whole trip, starting with the really fun stuff like hiking La Grande Soufrière, which is an active volcano. I thought I wouldn’t make it back to states ahaha, but it ended up being one of the main highlights of the trip. Thanks guys! The weather was crazy during the hike.. It rained (with thunder and lightning) really hard for short bursts, then was hot and sunny again. So unpredictable! I’ve never experienced a microclimate like that in my life.. but it was so much fun and only added to the adventure. Towards the end of our hike, there was natural hot spring is waiting for us. It was so relaxing.. and the view was incredible.
Your family is the sweetest and so humble. Can't wait to go back!
I never would have guessed that the next day could have topped the volcano hike, but we took a small yacht around Guadeloupe, which I learned is a butterfly shaped island, and cruised to some of the small white sand island off the coast. This was some of the softest sand i’ve ever felt..Pearl white sand between my toes, crystal blue water all around us, and hanging out with my best friends made this trip the memory of a lifetime. Thanks Buddy!
Cruising around this amazing floating islands
This island makes me smile .. , thank you for the amazing trip. Your family is the sweetest and so humble. Can't wait to go back!
Get educated at Mèmorial ACTe , cultural museum and slave trade memorial. I did wrote some Burmese on their guest book.
Rum tasting at , Le Zawag
I MUST.. that’s right.. I must tell you dolls, the food you have to try in Guadeloupe is Bokit. My friend’s favourite! It’s a local street food you can find pretty much anywhere on the island which quickly became my favorite. Basically, it’s two pieces of deep-fried ‘bread’ stuffed with meats, cheeses, and sauce. Each stands offers their own special twist on Bokit. Some use spicy mayo made with curry powder and others focus on fresh fish with different kind of hot sauces. You know I’ve always liked it spicy..! ;) and the local Rum will bring out more flavor.
Fresh Coconuts are to die for especially when it’s hot and humid. Ice cold coconut water will make you feel like you’ve died and gone to heaven.. you heard me Buddy, you owe me ONE for the coconut!
Oh! Accras! Accras are fried potato fritters sold as a snack at daily markets and can be found as an appetizer at most restaurants down there. Typically they filled with some kind of seafood, cod and lobster are pretty common. Accras have a strong African influence and remind me of hush puppies—but with a lot more flavor and a little bit spicier, which I like. I had it everyday lol Oh, I tried an eggplant version which was pretty good also!
Le Gosier , having breakfast and enjoying the view
Now, whether you’re strolling through the daily market or sitting down to a fancy dinner, you’re undoubtedly going to find fresh fish. Generally, today’s catch. Easy access to the sea means you are pretty much guaranteed fish that was caught only hours before. From grilled mahi mahi, to stuffed conch you have to make sure to indulge yourself in the local seafood throughout the entirety of your trip. It will easily be one of the highlights. One that you absolutely have to try is the Caribbean lobster, which is a pinier version of its relatives in Maine. DO NOT leave the country without ordering one grilled and smothered in butter. That’s one of my main recommendations. If you’re looking for something a bit more fancy check out Le Zawag. Remember the restaurant next to my hotel :) . They have a huge variety of fresh seafood and an amazing ambiance. Oh, their infused rum is pretty amazing also!
Overall, I’d say this is one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. Heart you guys for the fun journey! It was so awesome to finally meet your family and connect after so long!
